- New agency a joint venture between Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group of Companies and The Jupiter Drawing Room (Cape Town)
A new independent Namibian advertising and communications agency, Weathermen & Co Advertising (Pty) Ltd., has launched in Windhoek, Namibia. The startup agency is a joint venture between Namibian holding company Ohlthaver & List Group and The Jupiter Drawing Room (Cape Town).
The two parties have a long term existing relationship. The O&L Group of Companies is the owner of Namibia Breweries Limited – a client of Jupiter (Cape Town) for many years – that owns, manufactures and distributes the award-winning beer brand Windhoek.
Mike Reilly from the Ohlthaver & List Group said: “As more companies enter the African market, we believe creating world class brands and communications strategies are a key component to developing a competitive advantage. This unique joint venture will bring together the best of creativity, global advertising best practice, and proven brand management in a very real way. We are excited to be in a position to share this breakthrough with like-minded brands.”
Weathermen & Co. will be headed up by newly appointed Managing Director, Nicky Schermer, who previously held the position of Group Account Director at The Jupiter Drawing Room (Cape Town) for the past five years, and who headed up the Namibia Breweries account.
“It really feels like we’re pioneering a new model of an active partnership between an African creative leader and local business leader”, commented Nicky Schermer. “We really look forward to bring Jupiter’s creative credentials to this market with the support and credibility of O&L as our partner.”
Along with servicing existing Ohlthaver & List Group brands – including Tafel Lager and Wernhil Park – Weathermen & Co. has already lined up other Namibian clients, including Team Namibia.

Today the agency that has grown to be the second largest in Cape Town and awarded globally and locally for its creativity.
The agency offers a truly integrated approach. Along with above-the-line creative and execution, the business includes a globally awarded design team; in-house strategy and consumer insights; channel planning; and a burgeoning PR offering. Digital is integrated throughout.
Over the years the agency has built up an impressive body of work and awards success. In 2010 The Jupiter Drawing Room was named joint Agency of the Decade and in 2011 Jupiter (Cape Town) was named Cape Agency of the Year and Design Agency of the Year by AdReview.
The agency name comes from an obscure Guy de Maupassant short story. In a country house in Normandy, France, Madame Tellier and her young ladies ‘entertained’ the local tradesmen downstairs. The local dignitaries however, had a special room set aside for them on the first floor: The Jupiter Drawing Room.
When the agency was founded its philosophy was enshrined in the expression Rem tene, verba sequentur. (Grasp the subject and the words will follow).
