Instagram: A snapshot of the latest social media-advertising platform

Posted: March 16, 2016

When someone says “Instagram”, you no doubt think of food pictures, beach shots, and Throwback Thursday images of your best friend’s overseas trip. (All put through multiple filters, of course.) But, if you’re a brand looking to broaden your reach and up your sales, there’s something else you should be associating with it: advertising.

PitchAs the fastest growing social media platform, Instagram can’t be ignored in your advertising strategy. Thanks to its ads API – which was switched on in August 2015 – you now have a potential audience of more than 400 million users from around the world.

So why use instagram advertising? Other than the obvious user numbers, the highly engaging, visual nature of the platform results in an ad recall rate 2.8 times higher than other online platforms. People remember your ads and that means, at the point of purchase, your brand will be in the forefront of the consumer’s mind.

It’s also cheaper. In general, the cost-per-click on Instagram is lower than that on other digital platforms.

You can target your ads. Instagram is owned by Facebook, which means it has access to Facebook’s extensive demographic data. This, in turn, gives you the ability to take your message straight to the people you want to see it. And that means more chance your ads will convert to actual sales.

You have to ask yourself, can you afford not to advertise on Instagram?
