John Brown Media embraces transformation and education

JB_cmyk_smallAs part of global leading independent content marketing agency, John Brown Media is proud to announce that its South African business has attained a Level 3 B-BBEE Contributor status with a B-BBEE Recognition level of 110% and a Procurement Recognition level of 137.50%. Along with the launch of the John Brown Empowerment Trust, the group is passionate about transformation in South Africa.

John Brown Media was awarded the Level 3 B-BBEE Status in June 2013 by Premier Verification, an independent Broad Based BEE Verification company.

Lani Carstens, MD of John Brown Media South Africa commented, “To us transformation goes way beyond compliance and is embedded in every aspect of our business. It is also embraced at every level of the organisation. With the launch of the John Brown Empowerment Trust a significant percentage of our profits will be driven back into the broader community – with a special focus on media and digital training, which we are really excited about. In addition, almost 50% of our staff complement is from designated groups.”

Plans include partnering with an accredited training academy for media and digital training for previously disadvantaged individuals. “There is a shortage of specialist skills in the digital media space in particular, and John Brown is proud to be pioneering media education on this front.  In addition, John Brown Media also offers in-house learnership programmes and awards numerous study bursaries every year; the most recent graduates include Meagan Kuhn (Pick n Pay Fresh Living magazine’s senior managing editor), who graduated from the University of Stellenbosch’s Business School with Distinction.
